Fourth Sunday in Lent

But the Lord Looks at the Heart

I Samuel 16: 7

What does God see when he looks into our hearts? Does he see his grace and our knowledge of his love for us?

Buy or make large (6- to 8-inch), sturdy, heart-shaped cookies (gingerbread or lebkuchen work well).

Baking the cookies could be a class project for a different day. Children today have little knowledge of what actually happens in an oven.

Buy various colors of commercial frostings in tubes (or make your own in pastry tubes with various tips), and allow the children to decorate the cookies.

Encourage them to use Christian symbols or short Bible verses (crosses, flowers, God Is Love, Jesus Is Lord, for example).

Allow time for clean-up.
