Third Sunday of Advent
We Light Candles for the Light of the World
Candles are an important symbol
of Jesus, whom we call the Light of the World. The
candle for the third Sunday in Advent is rose.
The old Latin
reading for the day began with Gaudete, which means be
joyful. On this joyful day, we use rose-colored paraments and light
the rose candle, anticipating the joy Jesus will bring to the whole world.
Copy the dove and candles on blue 8-1/2 by 11 card stock. Make the candles
from formex film or construction paper, using gold for the flames. The third
candle should be rose--the other candles may be white or blue. A tiny rhinestone
in the eye of the dove is an enlivening touch.
