The Baptism of Our Lord

People in Foreign Lands Long for His Teaching

Isaiah 42: 4

The Bible has been translated into more languages than any other book, and it outsells all other books in many countries. The word, "Bible," comes from the Greek word, biblos, which simply means book.

Muslims call Christians and Jews "the people of the book," which means the people who read the Bible.

Put up the background and the world map. Find the word "Bible" in as many languages as you can, and ask the children to make book covers with the different spellings on them.

An older class might want to research the work of the American Bible Society and the Wycliffe Bible Translators as they try to provide the Bible to everyone on the planet in his or her own native language.
