Fifth Sunday of Pentecost
And All the Trees of the Field Shall Clap Their Hands
Isaiah 55: 12
Isaiah 55 is a wonderful vision of the good life that God has promised us. My favorite verse is verse 12, "For you shall go out in joy and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands," beautiful imagery of the delight that we will enjoy in the next life.
I like to score and fold brown butcher paper so the tree trunks have some texture. Cut leaves from patterned or shiny wrapping paper and fold and staple them at the stem end to give the art some dimension.
Have the children trace around their hands on fun foam (from the craft store) in various colors and cut them out. Staple the hands to pipe cleaners and staple the pipe cleaners to the bulletin board. If the children are quite small with tiny hands, this bulletin board becomes extremely moving.
The best thing about this bulletin board is that we get to sing the song, too - "The Trees of the Field" by Steffi Rubin and Stuart Dauerman.
