Seventh Sunday of Pentecost

I Honestly Want to Know Everything You Teach

Psalm 119: 131

The making of silk by feeding silkworms with mulberry leaves and then unwinding their cocoons is a very old skill, but it was only known in China and India in Jesus' lifetime. Even though it was very expensive, it was imported into Palestine by caravan in those days, for wealthy people to wear. Jesus may not have worn it, but he certainly had seen it.

And this precious fabric makes an appropriate bookmark for our most precious book, the Bible.

Let each child place small scraps of silk and silk thread in a small laminator pouch, working as flat as possible. Run the pouches through the laminator, and punch a hole and add a tassel.

(Cold laminator sheets may also work, but they are too sticky to allow repositioning of the silk.)
