Statement of Faith
The statement of faith is the major writing assignment of Confirmation Instruction - it is the one assignment that should not be shortened or omitted.
After reviewing our declarations of faith in the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, and with the pastor's guidance, let each confirmand choose an appropriate Biblical text.
Ask each of them to write a short essay on his or her own passage, relating to their own faith, which they should present to the congregation.
The statements of faith may be written and published in the congregational newsletter, but many congregations prefer that the confirmands read their statements of faith to the congregation on confirmation day.
Make sure the congregation keeps a record, however. Over the years, the book of these statements of faith will be a dynamic record of the faith of the congregation.
