Nineteenth Sunday of Pentecost

I Will Sing a Song about My Friend's Vineyard

Isaiah 5: 1

Even though this is a sad poem in the Book of Isaiah, the thought of vineyards always leads us to the wine of Holy Communion.

Put up a dark green background and the banner.

Let the children make stylized grape leaves from paper or felt, twining them with twisted paper around the grapes. Please remember that fully round purple objects will be difficult to affix to the bulletin board - try to find half-rounds of balls to paint purple, or make small balls of crumpled purple cellophane.

For the truly adventuresome in the kitchen, stuffed grape leaves are a Middle Eastern delicacy, which probably were eaten (stuffed with lamb and pine nuts) in Bible times.
