Fifth Sunday of Pentecost
The Lord Can Always Be Trusted to Show Mercy Each Morning
Lamentations 3:23
Morning prayer is a special way to begin each day, as we give God thanks for the newness he has placed before us.
Matins is a daily morning prayer service for the congregation that some people find necessary to begin each new day. But even if we are alone, we need to begin each morning with a simple prayer to God.
The children might like to learn Dag Hammarskjold's prayer:
Oh, Lord,
For all that has been - Thanks!
To all that shall be - Yes!
or Psalm 118:24
This is the day
which the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Or
Dear Father,
Hear and bless
Your beasts and singing birds,
And guard with tenderness
Small things that have no words.
Amen
And, of course, the children may write their own prayers as well.
This is a good day to update and add to their own prayer books - and a good day to remind parents and baptismal sponsors that purchased prayer books are a wonderful gift.
The beautiful old hymn, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," (With One Voice 771) is based on this passage in Lamentations.
