Fifth Sunday of Easter

I Am the Vine; You Are the Branches

John 15: 5

Not only does Jesus nourish us through the bread and wine of Holy Communion and with the breath of the Holy Spirit, but he tells us that we are grafted onto his body, as the branches grow from the vines in the vineyards.

So the community of Christians is intertwined, as we grow like branches from a central vine.

Put up a white or light gold background. Intertwine branches around a central vine, and let the children make oval, round, and heartshaped faces in the grape colors of light green, red, purple, and very dark blue-purple. Add curled-paper eyelashes, googly eyes, and red cheeks and lips.

Nestle the grape faces among the vines and leaves as we sing We Are One in the Spirit, We Are One in the Lord.
